Why plant once when you can have greens all season long? We’ll teach you how to stagger your plantings so there’s always something ready to harvest. No more feast-or-famine gardening—just a steady stream of fresh leaves!
Healthy soil is the key to happy plants. Learn how to build nutrient-rich soil that supports strong, resilient greens. We’ll discuss amendments, composting, and moisture retention strategies tailored for Central Oregon’s unique climate.
Our high-desert climate can be tough on tender greens, but you can outsmart it! From unexpected frosts to hungry deer, we’ll cover common pitfalls and how to work around them—so you can spend more time harvesting and less time troubleshooting.
With the right techniques, you can stretch your growing season well into fall (or even winter!). Learn how to use hoop houses, row covers, and cold-hardy varieties to keep the greens coming. You’ll even plant seeds to take home and kickstart your own garden!
Nothing makes you hungry like playing in the dirt! Bring a dish, and bond with your like-minded neighbors. We bring the main, you bring the rest! At School of Ranch, our product is education, but our purpose is community building.
Before trading her artist career for a pair of garden gloves, Beth Covert did her homework on desert gardening. After moving from Ohio, she managed the garden department at a local retailer—where she quickly realized their plant selections weren’t cut out for Central Oregon’s harsh conditions. That’s when she founded High & Dry Gardenworks, her own living lab for growing resilient, climate-appropriate plants. Beth has designed thriving food gardens in this tough climate and is excited to share what she’s learned!
High & Dry Gardenworks is all about finding creative ways to grow food and plants in Central Oregon’s challenging conditions. This partnership brings real-world, tested techniques straight from the garden to you!
