The Wellness Garden: Growing Herbs for Traditional Self-Care

Garden with Purpose

Whether you've got a full backyard or just a sunny windowsill, this workshop will teach you how to grow herbs that do more than spice up dinner. Think calming teas, soothing oils, and simple salves—all from your own tiny garden. You'll learn how to grow and use herbs like mint, chamomile, lavender, calendula, and basil for self-care.

The workshop is free thanks to the Deschutes County Library.  You need to sign-up 30 days ahead.

Learn traditional uses of your harvest. Amy will walk you through a few simple ways to turn your herbs into something useful, like a calming cup of tea or an infused oil to soothe your skin.

Amy Sidran

 Amy holds advanced degrees in wildlife biology, science education, and agriculture, blending her love for the natural world with hands-on learning. Her journey spans Peace Corps service in Bolivia, launching a student-led urban farm in Washington, and teaching science internationally in the Dominican Republic. Most recently, she led farm-based education at The Hotchkiss School before planting new roots in Bend, Oregon. Amy currently teaches Upper School Science at Cascade Academy and runs her own business, Take Root Edible Garden Design.

How should I dress?

Since we’re indoors at the Bend Downtown Library, come comfy and casual!

What should I bring?

Just bring yourself, something to take notes with, and your curiosity.

Can minors attend?

Yes! Minors are welcome, especially the curious and garden-loving kind.

Will there be food?

No food this time—but you’ll leave hungry for herbs.  And you'll leave with a special gift!
