The workshop is free thanks to the Deschutes County Library. You need to sign-up 30 days ahead.
When: July 22nd, 10:30am to 12:00pm
Where: Deschutes Public Library, Bend
Price: Free
You’ll get to know a handful of beginner-friendly herbs that thrive in our region—and in your tea, oils, and DIY salves. We’re talking useful, calming, easy-to-grow classics that love a sunny spot and a little attention.
No yard? No problem. We’ll cover soil, watering, light, and container options for all types of living spaces. Whether you’re working with a porch, windowsill, or raised bed, you’ll learn how to create a happy home for your herbs.
Learn traditional uses of your harvest. Amy will walk you through a few simple ways to turn your herbs into something useful, like a calming cup of tea or an infused oil to soothe your skin.
Amy holds advanced degrees in wildlife biology, science education, and agriculture, blending her love for the natural world with hands-on learning. Her journey spans Peace Corps service in Bolivia, launching a student-led urban farm in Washington, and teaching science internationally in the Dominican Republic. Most recently, she led farm-based education at The Hotchkiss School before planting new roots in Bend, Oregon. Amy currently teaches Upper School Science at Cascade Academy and runs her own business, Take Root Edible Garden Design.
This workshop is presented in partnership with Deschutes Public Library, where curiosity thrives.
