Starting seeds indoors, in a greenhouse, or straight into the ground is a game-changer for Central Oregon gardeners and you don’t need a magic wand, just a little know-how. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll dig into climate smart seed selection, prep the perfect soil, and create ideal conditions to bring your garden to life.
When: We’ll schedule this workshop again when we get at least 10 pre-registrants.
Where: Bend/Redmond
Price: $40 (+ $10 supply fee)
Pre-registration is free; we only charge your credit card when we're ready to schedule (and you say ok). When 10 people pre-register, we'll set up the next workshop with your input on dates!
With its quirky weather patterns, high desert challenges and microclimates, Central Oregon can throw some curveballs. Learn how to choose the right seeds for our unique growing zones and your property so your plants don't just survive—they thrive.
Whether you're working with a cozy window nook, a backyard greenhouse, planting in the ground or a raised bed, this workshop will guide you through soil prep, watering, temperature control, and more. You'll practice tried and true techniques that get real results and go home with seeds you have planted.
Nothing says community like a potluck. Breaking bread while building bridges, so to speak. This workshop will include a potluck, a chance to talk about what you are learning, share experiences, and get to know one another. We'll supply a main dish so bring something along to share with your neighbors!
Amy Sidran has a serious green thumb and a science brain to match. With degrees in wildlife biology, teaching, and agriculture, she’s taught everywhere from Oregon to the Dominican Republic and even built a student-led urban farm. Now based in Bend, she’s passionate about hands-on learning and helping folks feel confident growing their own food in challenging climates.
This workshop is offered in partnership with Take Root Edible Garden Design, whose mission is to empower people to grow their own food and create sustainable habitats where nourishment—and pollinators—can flourish. Learn more at Take Root Edible Garden Design.
