Learn the foundational skills of ground roping in this all-ages, hands-on beginner workshop. With one-on-one coaching and live demos from guest star Judy Robinson — 1978 World Champion All-Around Cowgirl — you’ll get step-by-step guidance in the art of roping. From coiling your rope to building a loop to pulling your slack, you’ll build confidence in the techniques that set the stage for arena or ranch work. The workshop ends with a rope-off challenge — friendly competition included.

You’ll start with the essentials: coiling your rope, handling it with confidence, and setting up for success. Judy’s decades of experience (and championship know-how) ensure that even first-timers walk away with practical skills and a new appreciation for this classic cowboy art.
From building and swinging a loop to aiming and releasing with control, you’ll practice the techniques that lead to a smooth roping sequence. The workshop is designed for all ages and learning speeds, with one-on-one guidance to help you improve with every throw.
At the end of the day, it’s rope-off time! You’ll get to compete in a fun, lighthearted challenge using the steer head dummies. A prize goes to the winner — bragging rights included.
Judy Robinson was born and raised on a working ranch, where horses, cattle, and roping were part of daily life. Her family raised rodeo stock, and Judy herself rode her way to the top — earning the title of World Champion All-Around Cowgirl in 1978. Over her 50+ year career, she’s competed across the western states, taught countless youth groups, and worked on ranches in Oregon and Texas. Today she continues to live the ranching life near Bend, sharing her knowledge and keeping these skills alive for the next generation.
