Understanding your horse’s anatomy is key to keeping them healthy, comfortable, and performing at their best. This hands-on workshop will explore how bones, muscles, and movement connect — and how recognizing the signs of discomfort early can make a big difference. You’ll learn to decode the way your horse moves, uncover common injury risks, and walk away with a toolkit of wellness strategies rooted in real anatomy (no guesswork here!).
When: May 31st, 10:00am - 1:00pm
Where: OSU Extension, Redmond, Building 3 (map)
Price: Contribute-What-You-Can
We'll take a guided tour through the lower limb anatomy of the horse, breaking down how bones, tendons, and joints team up to create motion. Understanding this interplay helps you become a more observant, supportive rider or caretaker.
Not all limps are created equal. You'll learn how to identify the most common equine injuries, and better yet — what often causes them. With a mix of visuals, discussion, and hands-on work, we’ll connect anatomy to real-world biomechanics and decision-making.
Nothing makes you hungry like horse anatomy! Bring a dish, and bond with your like-minded neighbors! We bring the main, you bring the rest! At School of Ranch, our product is education but our purpose is community building. We create common ground for people regardless of politics, age, background, or belief.
Dr. Persia Neumann of Black Diamond grew up immersed in western riding — think cattle sorting, reining, and western dressage. She spent her early years working on a ranch, where a deep love of equine care met a sharp curiosity for science. That combo took her all the way to a veterinary doctorate. Dr. Persia brings heart, humor, and a seriously engaging style to everything she teaches — your horse will thank you!

It’s an indoor class, so just come comfortable.
Something to take notes with — and your favorite dish for the potluck! (We’re bringing the main, probably pulled pork.)
Kids are welcome with an accompanying adult.
Yes! It’s a potluck. We’ll bring the main course and you bring a side, salad, or dessert.
