From loose legs to scuffed surfaces, this is your chance to repair a piece that’s been hanging on (barely). You’ll get guided practice using drills, clamps, sandpaper, and more to bring structure and stability back to life. If you don’t have something to fix, we’ll pair you with someone who does—or give you a practice piece to play with!
Ever wondered how to know what needs fixing, or where to start? You’ll learn to identify common repair needs and use safe, practical techniques to glue, nail, clamp, and restore. Expect a whole lot of “aha!” moments and a big boost in DIY confidence.
Nothing says community like a potluck. Breaking bread while building bridges, so to speak. This workshop will include a potluck, a chance to talk about what you are learning, share experiences, and get to know one another. We'll supply the main protein. Please bring something along to share with your neighbors!
Christy Tice is the founder of Handymandy: Major Help for Minor Jobs, a woman-owned repair biz rooted in curiosity and practical know-how. Her love for fixing started in her dad’s stringed instrument shop and has since grown into a full-on toolkit of skills and creative problem-solving (aka “MacGyvery”). She also teaches at DIY Cave and volunteers at Repair Cafes. Expect hands-on help, no-judgment encouragement, and a few laughs along the way.

Wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty and closed-toe shoes. Bring work gloves and safety glasses if you have them.
Bring 1–2 small wooden items—think chairs, stools, side tables, drawers, or small shelves. It should be something you can carry by yourself. We might not fix everything during class, but you’ll leave with a game plan to finish at home.
This class is open to mature teens and curious adults. If you’re ready to learn and love working with your hands, you’re welcome. Everyone must have their own ticket!
Yes! It’s a potluck, so bring a dish to share along with your own plate, utensils, and water bottle.
Absolutely. We’ll have glue, clamps, nails, sandpaper, wood filler, and brushes ready for action. You’re welcome to bring replacement parts or hardware specific to your piece.
